Steven Woodcock is actor, writer and musician. He is best known for two stand out roles; ‘Eastenders’ as ground breaking regular Clyde Tavernier and of course most famously as Rodney Trotter’s (Nicholas Lyndhurst) friend Jevon, in BBC smash hit classic comedy seris ‘Only Fools and Horses’. He is proud in particular to have played both of these amazingly well written roles.

Steven started as a writer and one of his plays, Jah-Jah Reached The Top, was performed at London’s Royal Court Theatre.
An early big break for Steven came when he appeared as Marcus on ITV alongside Liz Smith in The All Electric Amusement Arcade a 7-part children’s drama from Thames TV set in the seaside.

Another relatively early regular role for Steven came when he joined the most famous TV school Grange Hill as Glenroy, a role he would play for 2 series acting alongside many including future Eastenders on screen girlfriend Susan Tully. Around this time Steven appeared in his first major feature films. Firstly, he appeared as Gary in comedy drama The Chain produced by Film 4. Steven then went on to appear as Steven Dyce in political thriller Defence of the Realm with Gabriel Byrne produced by Rank Organisation. Both films saw him working alongside many screen stars inc Bernard Hill and Downton’s Phyllis Logan. Other films inc Claudia a revenge thriller film co-directed by Michael Winner.

Steven joined the cast of Britain’s favourite comedy ‘Only Fools and Horses’ as Jevon, the cool and confident friend of Rodney Trotter and Mickey Pierce. Starring opposite TV comedy legends Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst, Steven’s character Jevon featured prominently in a number of now classic episodes. Memorable moments for Jevon in the show set in Peckham famously included trying to convince Rodney that Nervous Nerys likes hard men and placing a bet with Rodney to dance with a girl they know of in a local nightclub (Cassandra). Rodney won the bet and danced with her and they soon were dating). Later, Jevon and Mickey sold on one of Boycie’s old cortina cars then took some phones off the notorious Driscoll Brothers. Del Boy took 100 of them and when the Driscoll’s found out, they beat Jevon and Mickey up as they thought they were conning them and left Del Boy in deep stuck!

Perhaps Steven’s most famous episode was when Jevon went on the beano to Margate with the lads from The Nags Head in Christmas special ‘The Jolly Boys Outing’ watched by over 20 million people on its first airing. On the journey, Jevon tried to wind up old sailor Albert Trotter and Albert threatened to clump Jevon for it. Jevon laughed. That day at the seaside, the coach blew up due to a dodgy radio Del sold the coach firm. Jevon was due to meet a girl at 9pm that night after they were supposed to arrive back in London but as there was a rail strike and no buses, they all had to spend the night in Margate. Jevon’s date was cancelled and him, Denzel and Mickey booked into a nice B&B leaving Del, Rodney and Albert to the horrible lodgings left.

Steven loved his time on Only Fools and there were plans for the character of Jevon to stay on, However Steven was given the opportunity for another stand out role and joined the cast of Eastenders as regular Clyde Tavernier, a young father and talented boxer. Clyde featured in prominent storylines including an inter-racial relationship with Michelle Fowler and being framed for the murder of publican Eddie Royle in what was the soaps biggest storyline of the year. In the storyline, Clyde was framed for the murder by the real killer, Nick Cotton. As prime suspect, Clyde decided to flee the country with his son and his girlfriend Michelle. They went to Portsmouth with the hope of catching a private ferry to France so they could start a new life together, but they were arrested whilst trying to board the boat. Eventually Clyde is proved to be innocent. This role saw Steven in many edge of the seat soap moments playing often opposite Eastenders Mitchell brothers played by Ross Kemp and Steve McFadden. Steven also worked with many other TV legends on the show inc Mike Read, Pam St Clement, June Brown, Adam Woodyatt and many more.

Steven’s notable TV drama and comedy roles inc Casualty, Wolcott, Travellers by Night, London’s Burning, The Lenny Henry Show, Girls on Top (with French and Saunders) , Paradise Postponed (with Zoe Wanamaker),Rackliffe’s Babies, Good Neighbours, Mixing In, A Very Peculiar Practice and The Knock. Steven is no stranger to the stage having appeared in numerous projects nationwide most notably Anthony & Cleopatra and The Taming of the Shrew at the Haymarket starring with Vanessa Redgrave and Timothy Dalton. Other shows inc One Rule, Eden, Scrape off the Black, Blood sweat and tears (tour), By the Pool (Edinburgh Festival) and the musical Oh Babylon. He made his major pantomime debut in 2019 headlining as the King in Leeds carriageworks theatre.
Specialist skills he has often been asked to use within acting projects include advanced driving qualifications, track and rally experience, motorcyclist instructor, live firearms experience, open water diving and martial arts. In recent years Steven has focussed on his writing and being a serious musician, he has composed over 500 songs and plays the guitar and bass professionally.
